So for the past month you will have seen we have been talking part in @pencilmeinshop #myshoplife19 (may have missed the last few days taking some time out with my family) but really feel the need to #Repost @pencilmeinshop final post. We are very much in the same position we love our little shop but it's a constant worry for us. Locals to Ashbourne will know we sadly lost Bennetts this month, a department store thats been a huge part of the town for many years and theres so many other empty shops too. We've also seen amazing shops we follow close this month and it's so sad to see. We can only survive if people choose to shop with us. The high street has changed massively in the 5 years we have been trading so Sarah's right its basically a use us or lose us situation! We've not come this far and worked so hard to give up without a fight πŸ’ͺ🏻 ・・・ 🚨 LONG POST 🚨 My Shoplife #myshoplife19 β€’ Day THIRTY! β€’ If I could change ... this was meant to be a big picture consideration, if you were in a position of power what could & would you change about shopping / retail / your town etc. Some would close amazon, some ask for a level playing field, reduced VAT or rates for small business, town centre free parking etc. For me I feel like Small shops need a * David Attenborough plastic straw moment * we do offer products not available as easily online, were competitive on price, & we offer much more on personal service, gift wrap etc and your purchase is available immediately. This photo above is from our opening day, June 2016, full of anticipation & excitement for this new adventure. I love running this shop it means so much to me. But I’m finding the retail conditions difficult, you’re not spending as much with us and in turn we’re struggling to bring you fresh stationery design & cards. We’ve seen Three #myshoplife friends close in 2019 - 2 in April alone. This is my warning shot I guess, Buy local or Bye Bye PMI πŸ‘‹ I hate to end this wonderful Shoplife challenge on this note πŸ“ but someone once said honesty was the best policy.
